Over-Eating Is Responsible For Childhood Obesity: Research

Researchers say that less workout cannot be held responsible for childhood obesity, as obese kids become less active and not vice versa.

Scientists are discussing whether the dearth of exercise or poor dietary intake is the larger cause of obesity.

This new study has found that overweight children are less involved in physical activity, as they are obese. The researchers have found out that consumption of junk food from young age can cause childhood obesity.

Earlier, scientists thought that staying indoors and watching TV, results in obesity. The study can significantly affect the Government strategies, which focus on physically activity levels in childhood and awareness regarding healthy eating.

The study was co-authored by Prof. Terence Wilkin of Endocrinology and Metabolism at Peninsula. Prof. Wilkin is of the view that the information in the study clearly highlights overeating.

He said that children can undergo more physical activity, if they reduce their weight, but high activity does not cause weight reduction. He further added that the Health Secretary should pay heed to the study.

He also said that the Government strategies for the previous ten to 15 years have not worked.
