Twitter updates apps for iPhone and Android

On Tuesday, popular microblogging service Twitter released new mobile apps for Android and iOS; with the updated apps boasting the addition of increased multimedia support, and quicker delivery of information which may be truly important to the users.

Some of the key features of Twitter's updated iOS and Android apps - the Android version 3.3 and the iOS version 4.3 - include "expanded tweets"; the new `Discover' feature; more fine-grained push notifications from tweets; tweaked autocomplete; and better event support.

Twitter elaborated that "expanded tweets" will essentially enable the users to play videos, read article summaries and experience other rich media straight away in tweets themselves; while the `Discover' feature will give users a heads-up to indicate the availability of new stories.

Moreover, tweaked notifications will allow Twitter users to see the update in the status bar while using the app; and improved autocomplete will help users see more suggestions when they search for people.

In addition, according to Twitter, one specific feature which will be available to the users for the mobile apps for the iPhone, but not the Android users, includes the ability to find the "best tweets and photos for events experiences like twitter. com/#NASCAR on your iPhone."

Noting that the newly-updated versions of Twitter's mobile apps are now available for the Apple iPhone and the Android-based handsets, the microblogging site said that the updated apps offer a number of enhancements so as to "bring you closer to everything you care about."
