Post-Vaccination, Three Infants Succumb To Death

In an appalling incident, three babies died within hours post the vaccination that was administered to them under the Expanded Program of Immunization (EPI) at Kalikapur Community Health Clinic of Guabaria union that is in district Hizlaupazila.

All the infants were vaccinated against measles yesterday and as per the reports, the three babies were identified as Toma, the daughter of Profulla Dhali; Tisha, the daughter of Pancham Kolu and Pranto, the son of Anil Kolu.

Confirming the incident, Anil Chandra Dutta, Civil Surgeon of the district, told Xinhua that as many as 12 children had been administered the vaccine, and out of the total 12, 3 fell ill. They experienced drowsiness, convulsion, vomiting and diarrhea.

Following the condition of the children, they were rushed to a hospital, where they had to be admitted, confirmed Dutta.

Reports claim that after the incident, Health Assistant Taslima, who was in charge of the clinic, was contacted; however, she was not available for comments.

It is believed that Taslima pushed the doses from a broken ampoule, though it was resisted by the mothers of the deceased babies.

To look into the matter, a six-member probe committee has been set up, which would be led by Deputy Civil Surgeon ASM Abdus Sattar. Post the investigation, the committee would submit a report based on the findings.
